Gallery Opening

In the middle of a pandemic, a lifelong dream of mine came true - I opened my own gallery!

But let’s start at the beginning. I’ve always wanted to be an artist and I dedicated as much of my education as possible to Art & Design. However, there were ups and downs and as you can imagine, making a living from art is not easy. Therefore I worked a bunch of different jobs and did an apprenticeship to get some money in, but I never stopped dreaming about being an artist and I kept painting in my spare time. Before I got my atelier last year, I used a teeny tiny corner in my living room as “atelier”.

I wasn’t exaggerating when I said it was tiny :D I had to cover everything with plastic foil because when I do my splashes, the paint goes everywhere. And as you can imagine, kneeling in this corner for a long time isn’t fun. Long story short, I wasn’t very productive in there.

Then, corona came and a store right below my flat had to close because they couldn’t afford the rent any more… and that’s how I got the chance to take all my savings and rent these rooms. I got to work immediately, here you see me stretch my first canvas in the new atelier.

So here we are now, I have a big atelier with a showroom in the front and I couldn’t be happier. I love my atelier and I’ve never been more productive. I always knew that being an artist was my purpose, and it just feels so right. Lots of great things to come!!!

In the meantime I have made so many paintings that I started to put them all up in the gallery like in an arena. Are you watching the paintings or are they watching you?

A LOT of art has happened here and this is what my atelier looks like almost one year later:

I think at some point I will cut out parts of the wall and make them into artworks as well. I especially love the left wall that caught a lot of paint from when I was doing “Alpha” and “Neural Network” - for both paintings I smashed full cups of paint against the canvas (and the walls).

Oh, and most of the time I look like my walls too :D
